Top tips to get happy
There is no foolproof recipe to guarantee happiness in life, but there are some simple steps that you can take to reduce everyday stress, feel better and improve your mental and physical health.
1. Get out into the great outdoors!
No not the backyard, not the shopping centre, get out into nature. Head out for a hike in the mountains or visit a natural swimming spot.
2. Do a detox
Detox your pages, your fridge, your cupboards, your phone; and you will find this detoxes your mind and creates space for new opportunities.
3. Exercise
We keep hearing it, and it’s true – physical activity is proven to be good for your mental health and overall wellbeing. Find something that you enjoy and commit to it, preferably 2–3 times a week.
4. Get a better sleeping routine
Everyone needs a little help sometimes and there are some amazing apps you can download to encourage good sleeping habits and help you drift off. Create your own dreamy environment.
5. Stick to the raw stuff
Ditch the packaged products and choose the natural stuff – boost your daily servings of raw fruits and vegies, stick to fish and white meats and you will feel motivated and more energised.
6. Increase your knowledge
When was the last time you learnt something new? Read a book, learn a new language, do a crossword puzzle – stretch your mind and increase your mental alertness.
7. Show kindness – to yourself and others
When you make someone else feel good, you feel good in turn. Kindness is a cycle. Even the smallest thing can give you a lift. Pay it forward and see what happens!
8. Meditate
Meditation is not a new age fad – it is a proven method of reducing stress and increasing mindfulness. Jump online to find simple five-minute meditations as a starting point and set some time aside to embrace your inner chi.
9. Start saying no
Do you need to attend every networking, farewell, baby shower, lunch, excuse-for-wine party? Probably not. Burnout is real and it happens. Prioritise your wellbeing first.
10. Look on the bright side
Be grateful for what you have and where you are – for your friends, for your family, for having the things you love around you. If it helps, write them down!
