As a longstanding local firm, Carey Group continues to spread its footprint across the Queensland region. The accounting, financial advice and Self Managed Super Fund firm has expanded to include business advisory services, appointed a new CEO and Managing Partner and invested in redeveloping its Townsville office. In 2019 Carey Group enters its next chapter of growth.

For too long, corporate executives living in North Queensland have been faced with a choice: Stay in NQ for the lifestyle benefits, or move to a capital city for career progression. For Carey Group’s new CEO and Managing Partner Matt Thomson, being asked to undertake an executive role with an established firm, that holds family values, long-term clients and is entering a new phase of growth, was the right role in the right place at the right time.

Matt, who has spent the past two decades advising governments and private companies on strategy development and execution around the world, including Canada, Asia and Africa, joined Carey Group mid-July, has hit the ground running.

“Carey Group is a strong, trusted brand with long-standing relationships in the region,” explains Matt of his motivation in joining the company. “The company’s brand is all about commitment to clients across the region, a commitment all the Partners share and live.”

Former CEO and Managing Partner Joe Carey has handed over the reins to Matt, which will enable Joe to focus on his client portfolio and involvement in the community, including as Board Member for Townsville Enterprise, North Queensland Cowboys, Cowboys Leagues Club and Chairman of Hells Gates Dam Business Case Project Leadership Group.

Carey Group, has continued to evolve since Brian Carey took over a small accounting firm in Ingham 1951, transforming into a multi-disciplinary Group with 70 staff across four locations – Townsville, Ingham, Cairns and Malanda. Matt hints there are further expansion plans on foot.

The firm’s organic growth has accelerated over the past year with 10 additional employees joining the Group in 10 months. With this growth, the firm has acknowledged an increasing client need for quality business advisory services.

The firm’s growing focus on business advisory services includes supporting clients with the development and execution of strategy, mergers and acquisitions, business valuations, development and identification of new markets or expanding service/product offerings and improvement opportunities in client’s business.

As a mark of Carey Group’s investment in North Queensland, the company recently redeveloped its Townsville office at 139 Sturt Street, expanding their existing office to more than double its floor space. While Carey Group resides on the top level, hospitality and commercial tenancies are available on the ground level from late July.
