Helping small business grow – Sturt Business Centre
Having been in the business of assisting small and medium sized businesses in the north for over three decades, Annette Ellis from Sturt Business Centre knows what businesses need to grow.
From little things…
I have been in the bookkeeping business for 34 years, initially working from home until I opened serviced offices in Sturt Street in 2004. Originally, the serviced offices were a solution for me as I’d outgrown my home office. Many businesses are in the same position as I was, and need a CBD-located space but aren’t in a position to justify a hefty lease commitment or large space. The business centre is the obvious solution, because it allows you to set up a business for very little upfront costs or capital outlays, and you can control your ongoing costs. Everything is provided – desks, chairs, meeting rooms, receptionist, photocopier/printer – you just need your own computer.
More than just serviced offices
Sturt Business Centre offers more than just serviced offices though, we also have hot desks which are ideal for travellers visiting Townsville for business and virtual offices for home-based businesses that need a professional front and CBD address. We even hire out our meeting rooms, if that’s all you need.
“None of us are ever too old to learn something new.”
Support is all around you
The businesses using the centre benefit greatly from connecting with other small or medium sized businesses, whether that’s due to removing the isolation that can accompany working alone, or whether it’s because businesses can use each other to grow collectively. I’m proud to say Sturt Business Centre has played more than just the role of ‘serviced office provider’ or ‘bookkeeper’ to many businesses over the years, we have become a trusted advisor and helped steer businesses along the road to success.
Change is ever-present
No matter what changes or evolves within business, the books will always be important in achieving success. The automation of processes and changes in technology have simplified bookkeeping for many businesses, but they still require a good bookkeeper to keep on top of finances and deliver accounting assistance so that they can concentrate on their core business.
Old dog, new tricks
None of us are ever too old to learn something new. That’s the key to succeeding, always learning. That, and being able to delegate, employing the right staff, learning to say no (that’s a big one for young businesses!), having a can-do attitude, being open to adapt to new processes, delivering good customer service and of course maintaining your integrity.
