Covering more of Townsville than ever before

Optus has been a part of the Townsville community for almost 25 years – basically, we’re locals! Our first Optus store opened in Stockland in 1996, and with three Optus shop fronts in Stockland, Willows and Castletown, and an Optus Business Centre in Garbutt, it’s safe to say that we are truly invested in Townsville and its community.

On a larger scale, Optus continues to invest in regional Australia with significant investment into mobile infrastructure across rural and often very remote parts of Australia. We want you to have the best mobile experience whether you’re enjoying a coffee at The Strand, camping at Magnetic Island or driving high over the Kuranda Ranges.”.

In Townsville alone five new sites have been installed across the area in the last 12 months with a further three sites planned for installation in the next 12 months at Nome, Black River and Rangewood.

These investments are aimed at increasing the coverage of the network as well as improving the penetration and capacity of the network in existing areas. This means a reliable network for calls and a faster network in more areas.

“Our aim is to bring competition to North Queensland. We want to take network off the table and bring it back to innovative technology, great customer service and better value for money,” said Optus Regional Market Manager North Queensland Dave Morrissey.

In 2016, Optus was awarded a five-year contract with the Townsville City Council to deliver IT managed services and telecommunication services. At the time, Townsville Mayor Cr Jenny Hill said the partnership was an important step in ensuring council was at the forefront of the push to use technology to provide more efficient, cost-effective council service delivery to the Townsville community.

“Great customer service is our point of difference, and we want to give you the best mobile and customer service experience in every situation”.

“The scope of the contract not only includes basics such as telecommunication services and software deployment for our staff, but also improved connectivity to our water and wastewater treatment facilities so that the sites can be better managed remotely, particularly in times of extreme weather events.” Cr Hill said.

Being a part of the Townsville community involves more than just providing a great mobile network and customer service experience. Optus prides itself on being a member of the community by financially supporting many local clubs, sporting teams and community groups. These include:

• Townsville Cricket – Sponsors of the 2018 T20 competition

• Northern Beaches Sun AFL team – Naming rights sponsor for 2018.

• Townsville Triathlon Festival – Optus Dinner Under the Stars 2017.

• Townsville Triathlon Festival – Optus Dinner Under the Stars 2018.

• North Queensland Football – major sponsorship agreement for 2018.

• Youth With A Mission (YWAM) – ongoing relationship over the last ten years as a part of the Optus Charity Mobile program including having raised over $270,000 for YWAM over the last 3 years.
