Guys, we all know what a healthy and balanced meal looks like, but how do we find the time in real life? It seems like a phone is always ringing or a baby is needing attention, which stops you from planning and prepping your weekly meals.
The more you plan head, you’re giving yourself more opportunities for success as you’re giving yourself the chance to eat healthy without even thinking about it. I know meal prep can look a little daunting, but I promise it will help! Meal prep means that you’re more likely to stick to your plan. That little extra prep time can save you a lot of mental energy (and actual time!) down the line and will soon become part of your day-to-day life.
Try some of my meal prep tips so you can be a super ninja in the kitchen.
MAKE A PLAN
Write yourself a shopping list and have a plan so you don’t walk out the owner of aisle 5. A list in hand means you curb your excess spending and make sure you have the right ingredients for your healthy week.
PREPPING DOESN’T STOP AT THE SHOPS
Even though you’ve gone through and done the shop for the week, get assembling to make the rest of your week even easier! Chop those veggies in advance, pre-assemble your breakies, smoothies, lunches, salad jars, oats, etc.
DOUBLE DUTY VEGGIES
Get yourself a double duty vegetable! Buy food you can eat raw or cooked so you can get your veggies in regardless if you have one minute or 100 hours.
WASTE NOT WANT NOT
Use what you already have floating around in your kitchen. If your recipe calls for spinach but you only have some kale, swap it over and give yourself a pat on the back for not wasting those delicious greens.
EMBRACE LEFTOVERS
Leftovers are the best way to be efficient. Not only are you saving time with cooking and prepping, you’re also wasting less too. Win!
YOU GROW, NINJA
Grow your own herbs at home. If you’re a little space poor, keep them on the kitchen windowsill. This way you can clip as you need rather than having to buy a whole bunch and only use a smidge. Plus the little ones (and the little ones at heart) can get involved too.
FREEZE YOUR LIQUIDS
Have pre-made bags of stock in the freezer so you can pop out a portion when you need it. You can also freeze wine in ice cube trays and pull out a block at a time when needed for stews and sauces.
HAVE EMERGENCY MEALS AND SMOOTHIES READY TO GO
Make sure you always have an emergency meal stocked up in the freezer for those days you have run out of time and you’re reaching for the pizza delivery number. Same goes with your smoothie ingredients. Package up the portion and freeze it for those mornings you need some fuel to go but you’re already running behind.
